Ellen Morrison (Wilson) Hawkridge was born in 1866 to Charles Moore Morrison Wilson and Mary (O'Connor) Wilson, and had siblings Georgina Anna (Wilson) Emery, Caroline (Wilson) Cronin, Mary Ann Butler, Sarah Moore Morrison (Wilson) Rodgers, and Charles Morrison Wilson. Ellen Hawkridge died at age 67 years old in 1933.

In 1866, in the year that Ellen Morrison (Wilson) Hawkridge was born, Swedish chemist, engineer, inventor, businessman, and philanthropist Alfred Nobel invented dynamite in Germany. During his lifetime he held 355 patents, of which dynamite was the most famous. He also established the Nobel Prizes in his will.
Did you know?
In 1886, at the age of 20 years old, Ellen was alive when on May 4th, a general strike began in Chicago. Workers were striking for an 8 hour workday and in protest of the killing - by police - of several workers the day before. When an unknown person threw a dynamite bomb, the strike became violent. Seven policemen were killed as well as 4 civilians. It became known as the Haymarket Riot and eventually resulted in an 8 hourwork day as well as commemorations on May 1st for worker's rights.
