  • Introduction

    Elsie was my mother, she died when I was 7 years old. She had 6 children Gary, Mike, Jeff, Judy, Kathy, and Karen. She died in Wenatchee WA in an apartment fire. Mike, Jeff, Karen and Kathy were adopted into families. Our life was not easy, Elsie and Glen were divorced and Elsie raised the children on welfare assistance. She was not the greatest mother, we were left unattended to take care of our siblings, many times without food. we had to miss school to take care of each other. We were constantly kicked out of our houses because of not paying the rent. I would love to hear some good things about my mother. I am sure she had a loving side, had life not been so hard, maybe we would have seen it.

In 1926, in the year that Elsie Geraldine Wilson Andruss was born, on November 15th, NBC was founded. It was the U.S.'s first major broadcast network. Ownership of the network was split between RCA (a majority partner at 50%), its founding corporate parent General Electric (which owned 30%), and Westinghouse (which owned the remaining 20%).

In 1939, Elsie was merely 13 years old when in May, Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first full-length animated film, reached a total international gross of $6.5 million which made it (to then) the most successful sound film of all time. First released in December 1937, it was originally dubbed "Disney's Folly" but the premiere received a standing ovation from the audience. At the 11th Academy Awards in February 1939, Walt Disney won an Academy Honorary Award - a full-size Oscar statuette and seven miniature ones - for Snow White.
