    Alexandria Gazette (Alexandria, VA) Feb. 3, 1919 Forrest A. Carter Who Was Accidentally Shot by His Brother Henry A. Carter Last Thursday Night Died Today at the Alexandra Hospital. Forrest A. Carter, twenty-four years old, who was accidentally shot last Thursday night by his brother, Henry A. Carter died shortly before 1 o’clock this morning at the Alexandria Hospital. Carter lived at 308 Montgomery street and besides his wife he is survived by one child. The body was taken to Demaine’s mortuary chapel and funeral services will be held at 8 o’clock tonight and the body will be shipped tomorrow morning to Gainesville, Prince William county, Va. Henry A. Carter was on a visit to Forrest Carter at the time, they lived next door to each other. Both brothers engaged in a pistol drill and Henry Carter just before leaving replaced the cartridges in his pistol. Forrest dropped his pistol as Henry neared the door and Henry, overlooking that he had replaced the cartridges in his pistol continued the drill and snapped his pistol. The ball entered the lung of his brother Forrest. An investigation was made of the case in the police court the next day and Justice Thompson declared the shooting to have been purely accidental after hearing the evidence presented. The deceased was employed at the Potomac Railroad yards.
