Frank Gutto was born on September 15, 1925 in Bayonne, Hudson County, New Jersey United States to Carmelo Gutto and Anna Louise Gutto, and had siblings Dominick D Gutto, Michael Gutto, Carmen Gutto, Mary Gutto, and Josephine JoAnn Anna Gutto. He married Lucille Gutto, and they were married until Frank's death on December 24, 1970. Frank Gutto had children Frank Gutto Jr, Carmen Gutto, Roseann Gutto, Gerald Gutto, and Paul Gutto.

In 1925, in the year that Frank Gutto was born, on November 28th, radio station WSM broadcast the Grand Ole Opry for the first time. Originally airing as “The WSM Barn Dance”, the Opry (a local term for "opera") was dedicated to honoring country music and in its history has featured the biggest stars and acts in country music.
