The Geelong Advertiser, 15th October 1881. A shocking accident befell George Edwards, eldest son of Mr. Tobias Edwards, of Lake Rowan and formerly of Lancefield. The lad had been grubbing trees, and had left one partially grubbed whilst he proceeded with another one close by. The one left unfinished fell unexpectedly, and crushed the young man with such force as to completely burst both eyeballs. He was greatly injured in other portions of his body, and if he recovers he will unfortunately remain afflicted with total blindness."
