Hugh May Wilson of VIC Australia was born circa 1817 to Hugh Wilson and Margaret Wilson. He had siblings Margaret Wilson, Robert Allen Wilson, and Alex Macgregor Wilson. He married Joanna Smart Nimmo in 1854, and had children Catherine Nimmo Wilson, Hugh May Wilson, Margaret May Wilson, Elizabeth Russell Wilson, John Thomas Wilson, and Robert Alexander Wilson. Hugh Wilson died at age 76 years old in June 1894.

In 1830, Hugh was merely 13 years old when on March 26th, The Book of Mormon was published in Palmyra, New York by Joseph Smith, Jr. The full title was "The Book of Mormon: An Account Written by the Hand of Mormon upon Plates Taken from the Plates of Nephi". According to Smith, the angel Moroni appeared to him when he was 17 and told him where to find golden tablets that told the story of a people who migrated from Jerusalem to the Americas. He transcribed the tablets, which became the Book of Mormon.
