James Anderson of Australia was born circa 1849 in Dundee, Dundee City County, Scotland United Kingdom. He married Ellen Matthews Anderson on October 28, 1876. They had children James Anderson and George Thornfield Anderson. James' partner was Jean Bovanchick, and they had children Ann Russell and Frank Russell. James Anderson died at age 31 years old on April 29, 1881 at South Island in New Zealand.

In 1849, in the year that James Anderson was born, on April 22nd, Patrick Kennedy - great-grandfather of President John Kennedy - arrived in the United States. He was the 3rd born son of an Irish farmer and he knew that he wouldn't be given the chance to run the family farm. So he emigrated to Massachusetts and became a cooper. After only 10 years in the US, he died of cholera at age 35.
