Margaret (Holdsworth) Jervies of Northcote, City of Darebin County, VIC Australia was born on May 14, 1863 in Connewarre to William Holdsworth and Hannah Hird Holdsworth. She had siblings Elizabeth Holdsworth, Eliza Anna Holdsworth, Michael Holdsworth, James Holdsworth, Milley Thorley, Joseph Holdsworth, and Elizabeth Overson. She married William Charles James Jervies in 1881, and had children Mary Ann Jervis Filippe, Hannah Jervies Clingan, William James Jervies, John Henry "Jack" Jervies, Jessie Jervies Blake, Charles Jervies, Margaret "Maggie" Jervies, Agnes Jervies, Thomas Mcquillan Jervies, Millicent 'Milly' Jervies, Stanley Jervies, Samuel Jervies, and Robert Jervies. Margaret Jervies died at age 75 years old on February 17, 1939 in Northcote.

In 1877, at the age of only 14 years old, Margaret was alive when on March 2nd, the U.S. presidential election of 1876 was ended with the selection of Rutherford B. Hayes as the winner. Samuel J. Tilden had won the popular vote in November 1876 but 20 votes in the electoral college were in dispute. An informal agreement was made in which Hayes agreed to remove federal troops from South Carolina, Florida, and Louisiana, ending Reconstruction in the South. So, on March 4th, Rutherford B. Hayes became the 19th President of the United States.
