  • Introduction

    Norman's father was Neil Abner Symons, 1894-1963. Hi mother was Anna Elva (Swartz) Symons, 1895-1985. He had siblings Alice Ruth, Neal DeWeese, and Evelyn Bernice. In some later records, Norman stated that he had been born in Pennsylvania. In the 1920 and 1930 censuses, Norman was living with his parents and siblings (1920, his older sister Ruth, 1930, younger siblings Neil and Evelyn). He was attending school in 1930 and could read and write. In the 1920 census, the family was living in Poland OH and father Neil was a machinist in a steel mill. In the 1930 census, the family was living in Struthers OH and father Neil was a carpenter in building/construction. In the 1940 census, Norman was 22 and living in Boardman OH. He was a hired man on the farm and living in the household of John Hitchcock. He had completed the 8th grade. On his WW2 draft card, he was 6 ft tall, weighed 165 lbs, had a light freckled complexion, brown eyes, and brown hair. He listed his next of kin as his mother - Elva Anna Symons, said he was living in Salem OH, and that he waw working for Armour Lloyd. Records say that Norman married Beula Ruth Gordon on February 7, 1944 and Virginia Still on June 29 1956. He had a son, Larry Hans Symons, 1958-1994.
