Norman's father was Neil Abner Symons, 1894-1963. Hi mother was Anna Elva (Swartz) Symons, 1895-1985. He had siblings Alice Ruth, Neal DeWeese, and Evelyn Bernice. In some later records, Norman stated that he had been born in Pennsylvania.
In the 1920 and 1930 censuses, Norman was living with his parents and siblings (1920, his older sister Ruth, 1930, younger siblings Neil and Evelyn). He was attending school in 1930 and could read and write.
In the 1920 census, the family was living in Poland OH and father Neil was a machinist in a steel mill. In the 1930 census, the family was living in Struthers OH and father Neil was a carpenter in building/construction.
In the 1940 census, Norman was 22 and living in Boardman OH. He was a hired man on the farm and living in the household of John Hitchcock. He had completed the 8th grade.
On his WW2 draft card, he was 6 ft tall, weighed 165 lbs, had a light freckled complexion, brown eyes, and brown hair. He listed his next of kin as his mother - Elva Anna Symons, said he was living in Salem OH, and that he waw working for Armour Lloyd.
Records say that Norman married Beula Ruth Gordon on February 7, 1944 and Virginia Still on June 29 1956. He had a son, Larry Hans Symons, 1958-1994.

I am 2nd generation San Jose and have seen a lot of changes in the area while growing up. We used to be known as the "Valley of Heart's Delight" (because the Valley was covered with orchards and there were many canneries to process the food grown here, which shipped all over the US) - now we have adopted the nickname "Capital of Silicon Valley" and Apple, Ebay, Adobe, Netflix, Facebook, and many more tech companies are within a few miles of my current home in San Jose (including AncientFaces). From a small town of 25,000, we have grown to 1 million plus. And when you add in all of the communities surrounding us (for instance, Saratoga, where I attended high school, living a block from our previous Mayor), we are truly one of the big cities in the US. I am so very proud of my hometown.
