In the early 1960's I had my first 'fishing' trip with my dad, Frank Kroetch, and our Uncle Ralph, in the Nooksack River in Whatcom Co., WA.
I thought standing in the river for hours, waiting for a fish to bite, was great fun...until, Uncle Ralph caught a fish. After he reeled in it, he started hitting it on the head with a tree limb that was lying on the ground. I was shocked. My dad explained that it was better to kill the fish than to let it suffocate, but I was horrified. I rarely eat fish to this day. Uncle Ralph felt badly that he had upset me, he was a kind soul.

This is amazing! I am researching my family history and Ralph's brother Ray was my great grandfather.
Ralph also had a brother Bryan Greenough. Ralph married (my aunt)Thelma Ferguson and Bryan married her sister (also my aunt) Wea Greenough. Does that show in your family tree?
