He was married to Janet Henderson (Nish) Thom on September 20, 1883 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, in Greater Bendigo City County, Victoria Australia, and they were together until death separated them. He had children Daphne Thom, Keith Young Thom, Reston Nish Thom, Harold Thom, Eric John Thom, Janet Nish Thom, and William James Thom. Robert Thom died at age 82 years old on January 15, 1928 in Heidelberg, Banyule City County, VIC Australia.
