Reston Nish Thom of Balwyn, Boroondara City County, VIC Australia was born on November 19, 1897 at St. Andrew's Manse, in Mansfield, Mansfield Shire County to Janet Henderson (Nish) Thom and Rev. Robert Thom. He had siblings Keith Young Thom, Daphne Thom, Harold Thom, Eric John Thom, Janet Nish Thom, and William James Nish Thom. He married Katarian McLean ( Gillies) Thom on April 17, 1929 at Scotch College Chapel, in Hawthorn, Boroondara City County, Victoria, and they were married until death separated them. Reston Thom died at age 88 years old on November 11, 1986 in Kew, VIC.

In 1897, in the year that Reston Nish Thom was born, on March 4th, William McKinley became the 25th President of the United States. He had beaten William Jennings Bryan in the 1896 election by 51% to 46.7% in the popular vote. Six months into his second term as President, McKinley was assassinated.
Did you know?
In 1921, by the time he was 24 years old, on November 11th, the first burial was held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. The body of an unknown soldier - selected by Army Sgt. Edward F. Younger who was highly decorated for valor and received the Distinguished Service Cross in "The Great War" - was brought back from France (World War 1) and placed in the newly completed tomb. President Warren G. Harding officiated at the interment ceremonies.
