They grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He attended and graduated from Rochester High School in Rochester, Pennsylvania, USA. In school he was on the basketball team, part of the chorus, and the band. At the age of 20, Robert registered for the draft as the head of his household on June 30, 1942, in Philadelphia, where he resided. He later enlisted and served in the US Navy during World War II.

1939 Rochester High School Reserves Basketball Team
Bob and fellow classmates of the 1939 Rochester High School Reserves Basketball Team. "The Rochester Reserves played 17 games this year, winning 10 and losing 7. Rochester's first setback was losing to the Wampum team by a 25 to 18 score. They downed New Brighton 25-21 in an exciting game.

At East Palestine, Ohio, they won with a 28-5 score.

In the first league game the Reserves defeated Beaver 10-15. but lost their first same to Monaca by a 56-22 score and still another to Midland 27-13. Again they put on the pressure to beat Evans City 19-16. Zelienople 26-4 and Mars 35-17.
Next Freedom defeated the boys 20-8. Avalon then defeated them 25-17 in non- league game.

To start the second half. Rochester won over Beaver 19-12. They lost to Monaca and Midland by 30-19, and 12-18, then to Evans City 34-15. Rochester came back to defeat Mars by a 23-18 score and to overcome Freedom in the most exciting game of the season in an overtime period by a score of 22-21.

The reserves have outscored their opponents by 389-338 points.

They have developed many players who will be valuable to the varsity in coming years.
These boys are as follows: Dick Mazzocca, Melvin Leonard, Harold Geist, Bob Ostrander, Bill Rote, Canzano, Charles Bogolia, Gilbert Jersey, Joe Davies, Bickerstaff, Paris, Piscione, Bob Whiteleather.

Mr. Peacock has given much attention to the reserves because he believes there is good material there for winning teams in the future. The reserves have played more games this year than ever before in order that they may gain experience for varsity basketball. These boys deserve a lot of credit for the fine record they have established, and we wish them success in their coming years of basketball.
