He had siblings Walter Henry Wastell, May Wastell, Lillian Wastell, Charles John Wastell, Tessy Wastell, Ernest William Wastell, and John Charles Wastell. Roy Wastell married Alma Denman in 1925, and died at age 92 years old in 1993.

In 1901, in the year that Roy Eric Arthur Wastell was born, Edward VII succeeded Queen Victoria. Queen Victoria of England had become Queen in 1837 and reigned until her death in 1901. In 1916, he was merely 15 years old when visiting nurse Margaret Sanger opened the first birth control clinic in the U.S. at 46 Amboy St. in Brooklyn New York. Ten days after the clinic opened, Sanger was arrested for "violating laws against giving out birth control information" which was defined as obscenity. The clinic was not handing out birth control - just information about sex and birth control methods. (The Comstock law categorized information about abortion, family planning, and contraception as “obscene”.) The clinics and organizations that Sanger established later evolved into the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
