She was married to George Dawkin in 1865, and had children Edward Franklyn Dawkin, George William Dawkin, Oliva Sydney Dawkin, Frank Wilkinson Dawkin, Ada Margaret (Dawkin) Raftis, Alice Mary Ann Coleman, and Elizabeth May (Dawkin) Fallu. Sarah Dawkin died at age 77 years old in 1919 in Nar Nar Goon, VIC.

In 1865, she was 23 years old when on September 26th, Champ Ferguson, a Confederate guerrilla, became the first person to be convicted of war crimes arising from the Civil War. (There was only one other person convicted of war crimes in the Civil War.) He was found guilty by a U.S. Army tribunal on 23 charges arising from the murder of 53 people. On October 20, he was hung.
