  • Introduction

The Australasian, Melbourne. 22nd July 1882. OLD COURT HOUSE MANSLAUGHTER. Frank Dunn and Owen Dunn, two young men, we're charged with the manslaughter of their brother, Thomas Alexander Dunn. The case for the prosecution was that on the evening of the 3rd June last the prisoners went to the house of their brother in Buckingham-street Richmond, and asked him for a medal which had belonged to their father. An altercation then took place between them. The prisoners struck at their brother with some pickets. He then took up a gun barrel, and endeavoured to strike Owen, when Frank came up and wrenched the gun barrel from him. The deceased then went to get another weapon, when Frank Dunn threw two stones at Alexander, one missed but the other struck him on the head and he fell down. He was taken to the Melbourne Hospital but died after a few days from fracture of the skull. ( some papers said that Frank hit him over the head with the gun barrel )
