Victor Stanley Turner of Seymour Australia was born in 1898 in Seymour, Mitchell Shire County, VIC to James Smith Turner and Sarah Ann (Brown) Turner. He had siblings Sarah Jane (Turner) Morris, Mileta Alice Maud Turner, Clara Elizabeth (Turner) Geoghegan, Claude Frederick Turner, Florence Martha (Turner) Hansen, Victoria Adelaide Turner, James Smith Turner, Francis Alfred Jasper Turner, William Edwin Henry Turner, and George Edward Turner. He married Alfreda Irene Lillian Spry in 1921, and had a child Stanley Turner. Victor Turner died at age 34 years old in 1932 in Seymour.

In 1898, in the year that Victor Stanley Turner was born, on March 24th, Robert Allison of Pennsylvania became the first person to buy an American-built car. He bought a Winton, which he had seen in an advertisement in Scientific American. The Winton, built in Ohio, was made by hand and came with a leather roof, padded seats, gas lamps, and tires made by B.F. Goodrich.

In 1902, when he was merely 4 years old, the first Rose Bowl game was played in Pasadena, California. Called the "Tournament East–West football game" at the time, the Michigan Wolverines (East) played the Stanford Indians (West) - the Wolverines won 49 - 0. (The Stanford captain requested an end to the game with 8 minutes remaining.) The Tournament of Roses Parade began in 1890 and the football game began as a way to boost tourism in the area.
