  • Introduction

    Violet Alokehau (Nahinu ) Nakea was born to John Keoni Nahinu (1858 -1942) and Sarah Kapule Hanohano (1865 - 1928). Both parents were born in Hawaii. She had siblings: Louise, David, Abigail, Emelia, Johah, Esther, Joseph, Lorrin, Miriam, Daniel, Ruth and Evelyn. Violet Nahinu married George Kauakahi Nakea Levi (1901 - 1956) on November 1, 1926 in Kalihi, Hawaii. They had a son, Lawrence Kauakahi Nakea. Violet was survived by four children: one daughter, Violet, and three sons, George, Lawrence, and Richard. She was also survived by 20 great-grandchildren and "numerous" great-grandchildren. Violet was a member of Ewa Beach Hawaiian Civic Club, the Association for Research and Enlightenment, Aboriginal Lands of Hawaiian Ancestry Inc. and had translated for O.H. A. previous to her death.

    Violet Nahinu Nakea, 82, of Honolulu, died Tuesday. She was born in Hookena and was a retired Department of Education teacher and was a translator for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. Friends may call 6 to 9 pm Tuesday and 9 to 11:30 am Wednesday at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary. Services 7:30 pm Tuesday and 11:30 Wednesday. Burial at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery. Casual attire. Survived by sons, George N. Kaeliwai, Lawrence K. Nakea of Alaska and Capt. Richard K. Haller; daughter, Mrs. Richard (Violet) Battle, of Montana: 20 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother Lorrin N. Violet Nakea's Obituary - Honolulu Star-Bulletin
Mrs. Violet N. Nakea, 82, of Honolulu died Tuesday in Honolulu. She was retired as a school-teacher after 42 years with the Department of Education and had served as a Hawaiian language translator for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary. Burial will follow in Hawaiian Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday - services will be at 7:30 p.m. - and after 9 a.m. Wednesday. The family asks that casual attire be worn. Mrs. Nakea was born in Hookena, Hawaii.

She is survived by three sons, George N. Kaeliwai, Lawrence K. Nakea and Richard K. Haller; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Violet K.) Battle; a brother, Lorrin N. Nahinu; 20 grandchildren; and several grea-grandchildren.
