He was in a relationship with Margaret (Inglis) Lardner, and had children Jane (Lardner) Rowland, William James Lardner, John Stafford Lardner, Margaret Maria (Lardner) Grant, Ebenezer Lardner, Henry Fisher Lardner, Frances Elizabeth (Lardner) Harrison, Sarah Louisa (Lardner) Brown, and Albert Thomas "Dick" Lardner. William Lardner died at age 74 years old on June 14, 1894 in Homebush, Pyrenees Shire County, VIC Australia.

Unsatisfied with his alma mater, William and Mary, which focused on religion and shorted science, Jefferson - along with former Presidents Monroe and Madison - created a university that had 8 schools: medicine, law, mathematics, chemistry, ancient languages, modern languages, natural philosophy, and moral philosophy.

In 1828, by the time he was merely 9 years old, on April 20th, French explorer René Caillié became the first non-Muslim to enter Timbuktu and to later return alive.
