Description:
Shown here is the 48th Golden Rule Store which would later become J. C. Penney.

James Cash Penney wasn't the first owner of the Golden Rule company. In fact, he was brought into the company with the two existing founders who already operated two Golden Rule Stores. He opened his first store and later open two additional stores under the same name and partnership until he bought complete control in 1907. By 1912 he had 34 stores and consolidated them all under the name J. C. Penney in 1913.
