Allen Harrison Holbrook peacefully went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 12:08 p.m. at his home in Nampa, Idaho with his family by his side. He was born on February 7, 1935 to Allen and Frances Holbrook in Modesto, California and was raised along with his baby sister, Barbara, in Oakdale, California. He attended Oakdale Elementary and graduated from Oakdale High School after which he went on to Modesto Junior College where he earned an Associate's Degree. During his youth, he was involved in Boy Scouts and earned an Eagle Scout Honor. He was active in swimming and diving, and taught life-saving courses at the community pool which his parents managed in Oakdale. Allen was an active member of the Oakdale Methodist Church. Allen enlisted into the Navy during the Korean War where he received the China Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Upon completing his term in the Navy, he met and fell in love with Evelyn Trotter at Kendall Baptist Church in Washington D.C.. A year to the day of their first date, on August 10, 1959, he married his life-long love and best friend, Evelyn, in Maryville, Tennessee. Allen and Evelyn moved to California in 1960 and, in 1962, they adopted a son, Gregory Allen Holbrook, and 2 years later adopted a daughter, Kerri Diane Holbrook. Allen loved his kids and was a devoted father. Allen was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church in Modesto, California for 50+ years during which time he served as a deacon and treasurer. Allen worked at Modesto Empire and Traction Company for 30+ years as a rate clerk and retired in 1998. During his retirement years, he loved to travel with Evelyn to visit family and friends. He actively volunteered at the church office at Trinity Baptist Church as well as for Angels on Wheels and the American Cancer Society. His hobbies included reading, social media, community choir, collecting trains and traveling. Allen's walk with God was extremely important to him. He was a devoted man to the Lord and served Him faithfully throughout his life, being an example to many of a life surrendered to Christ. Allen was a quiet, gentle, kind, faithful, loyal man of integrity who dearly loved his family and friends. Allen was preceded in his death by his parents, Allen and Frances Holbrook, sister Barbara Mortensen, brother-in-law Rod Mortensen, and son, Gregory Allen Holbrook. Allen is survived by his beloved wife Evelyn, daughter Kerri (Todd) Mudie, grandchildren Brianna (Levi) Crandall, Emily (Alex Betts) Mudie, Caleb (Alyse) Mudie, and great-grandchildren, Elijah and Everleigh Crandall, as well as several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Allen's name to Wounded Warriors, American Cancer Society or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
