Alton Erwin Taylor Jr was born on July 6, 1933 in Whitman, Plymouth County, Massachusetts to parents Alton Erwin Taylor (1908-1984) and Bertha Palmer Hixson (1914-1993). He had one full biological brother as well as three half siblings. Private First Class Taylor bravely served as a member of Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division during the Korean War, sacrificing his life in combat on December 3, 1952. He was posthumously honored with the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, and Republic of Korea War Service Medal for his courageous service. His service number was 1208715, and he served in the AT Platoon, 3rd Bn, A/S USME. He enlisted on September 1, 1951, and his honorable discharge occurred on December 3, 1952.
