I did a search for the name on the engine of the train. It appears to be the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad. It took a while for construction to get into full swing, but I think finally did so in the mid-late 1870's. If you look up the information on the railroad, it might give you some insight into when and where this photo may have been taken. Good luck!
