Benjamin David Zakheim
Benjamin David Zakheim, also known as "Bennie," was born on May 14, 1917, in Kansas City to parents Ezelle/Egelle "Israel" Zakheim (1886-1940) and Gunces "Gussie" Lev Zakheim (1895-1985). He had two sisters, Mary Zakheim (born 1920) and Rosa "Rosie" Zakheim (1930-1935). Zakheim grew up in Kansas City and enlisted in the United States Army on April 24, 1941, at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, Georgia. He likely completed basic training before being assigned to a specific duty station or unit. As a Private, he held a low rank and performed various support duties during his military service. After completing his military service, Zakheim settled in Atlanta, Georgia, where he worked as a bookkeeper. He was married to Louise V Zakheim, and they had two children, Rosalyn B and Irving L Zakheim.
