Board Approved by County Officers

San Jose, May 6 - A board of fire commissioners recently elected by residents of the Cottage Grove county fire district was ratified by the board of supervisors yesterday. The commissioners are: John Doudell, Sam Pearce, Florent Gardiser, Phil San Fillippo and Jack Amato.

Hearing on the proposal to form a county (unknown) district in Cottage Grove was set for May 19.

John W. Doudell was married to Vivienne Coan Doudell on April 10th 1955 in Marin County California. John is credited with starting the Doudell Trucking Company in San Jose in 1920 which expanded operations into Arizona in 1950. The company’s first business line was hauling steel products from California to Arizona, and now offer full van service, flatbed and intermodal container service within the Southwest. Doudell also specializes in warehousing, transloading, storage and moving equipment and flatbed containers for commercial customers. Other family businesses and sister companies within the trucking industry include Diamond Tanklines and Transportation–a fuel transport company–and a Mitsubishi/Fuso truck dealership, both in California.

My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth. My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
