David Lee Johnson, 75, of Burtchville, died Sunday, June 26, 2022.

He was born January 5, 1947 in Hamtramck to the late Coy L. and Helen L. Johnson. He married Karon M. Szparaga on April 8, 1967 in Warren.

Dave was a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was part of the first combat-ready team in Vietnam and following six years of active duty service, he spent five years in the reserves at Selfridge Air National Guard Base. Dave was employed as a truck driver with ANR Transportation for 30 years until his retirement. He was a member and the current Post Commander of V.F.W. Charles Schoor Post #796 and current member and Past Commander of American Legion Charles Hammond Post #8. David loved riding his Harley and recently took an interest in cooking.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Karon; daughter, Tina Johnson; grandchildren, Cassandra Johnson, Samantha "Squeaker" Johnson and Timothy Chivers; sister, Linda Ferguson; niece, Stacey (Robert) Dicks; nephew, Shane Ferguson; several great nieces and nephews; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Darrell Ferguson.

Graveside services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, July 8, 2022 at the Allied Veterans Columbarium, Port Huron. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Marine Corps and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

I'm a Christian, and I'm a daughter of Allan B. Holbrook, now in heaven. My married name is Debby Stevens.
My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
