Ellis Family Picnic circa 1910
Dr. Frank Ellis, standing on left and my grandmother, Lyndall Ellis Maddux, at a picnic. I love how formal even a picnic was in those days.

This 1910 Ellis family picnic is inspirational! White table cloth, lots of food . . . and lots of family. :)
Where was this photo taken? I have a lot of Ellises in my family tree.
I bet you are very thankful for this camera shot!!

What used to happen and may still happen in rural spots, especially in the South and Mid-west, is the community home-coming picnic where families would return to visit; eat a communal picnic and have a family/friends reunion. Often around the time for decorating and cleaning up cemeteries.

Here's a potential match in Kentucky, born 1902.
Big back pats to everyone who labeled even one person in their old photos!

They're listed at Main and Court St, Breathitt, KY in 1920 (no house number listed). Dad's birthplace is listed as Ireland and his mother tongue listed as French! (The enumerator probably misunderstood "Irish"?) He was a surgeon at the trachoma hospital. An ophthalmic surgeon! No other children living at home.

I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth. So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her. For more information about what we're building see About AncientFaces. My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
