Bright eyed little Fanny Meta Janssen was born today in 1896. Her great grandson requested that we remember her 124th birthday. Isn't that what we all want - that over 120 years later, we are remembered?

My grandmother was born on the 14th September 1896 - she passed in her 97th year. I always remember her birthday with a thank you for being so inspirational and for loving my children and me. ❤️

Love your old pictures. Sure wish i had one of my grandma. 5 Born1897. Went to salem ore. Fromriver bend kanasas. In covered wagon. At age 10. Those stories. What she told me. About. As i grew up. And spent nights with her. Loved hearing them so much. Last name krum. Finally moved to portland. A great lady

Fanny M. (Janssen) Roos, was born September 25, 1896, southeast of Syracuse, Nebraska.
She married Theodore Roos on October 12, 1916. Together they lived on the family farm southwest of Dunbar, Nebraska and later moved to a farm west of the Delaware Church (Nebraska). They retired in 1946 and moved to Syracuse.
Following the death of her husband in 1958, She did baby sitting and worked for many years at Community Memorial Hospital in Syracuse.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Syracuse, sang in the choir and was treasurer of the Dorcas Society for many years, until the church closed . She the became a member of Luther Memorial Church (Syracuse) and was an active member of the quilters group until her health failed.

I am 2nd generation San Jose and have seen a lot of changes in the area while growing up. We used to be known as the "Valley of Heart's Delight" (because the Valley was covered with orchards and there were many canneries to process the food grown here, which shipped all over the US) - now we have adopted the nickname "Capital of Silicon Valley" and Apple, Ebay, Adobe, Netflix, Facebook, and many more tech companies are within a few miles of my current home in San Jose (including AncientFaces). From a small town of 25,000, we have grown to 1 million plus. And when you add in all of the communities surrounding us (for instance, Saratoga, where I attended high school, living a block from our previous Mayor), we are truly one of the big cities in the US. I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth.
So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her.

My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
