George Washington White
I have an old studio photograph of George W. WHITE which was taken at the Morris Studio in Lawrence, KS sometime in the early 1900's. George is identified as married to Mary BARNEY. Based on limited research and thanks to area genealogists I was able to gather the following information regarding George and his family:
George Washington WHITE was b. 9 May 1879 in Sibley, IA to parents Samuel French WHITE (1835-1918) and Margaret Ann MAHAN or MAHON (1845-1916) who were married 3 Oct 1863 in Zanesville, OH. George was one of 8 children born to this family including Alva Asberry or Asbury; Ida; Charles Winthrode or Winrod or Wintrode or Winthrobe; Minerva; William Whip; Berthis or Bertis “Bertie” Hays or Hayes; Anna May and George Washington WHITE, all born between 1865 and 1882.
George married Mary Gertrude BARNEY (1883-1982) on 29 Dec 1909 in Boise, ID and the couple had 6 children including Paul William; Ruth Virginia; Mary Gertrude; Donald Edward; Dorothy Helen; and Dean Victor WHITE, all born between 1911 and 1923. George died 16 Dec 1952 in Shelby, IN and is buried in the Lowell Memorial Cemetery in Lowell, IN. His wife Mary was b. 29 Sept 1883 in Anita or Audubon, IA to parents Andrew Jackson BARNEY (1833-1926) and Minerva Augusta DIETRICH (1848-1944). Mary was one of 8 children born to these parents including Jennie Maud; Edward Dietrich; Francis; James O.; Emma M.; Mary Gertrude; Martin Van Buren; and Flavia Pearl BARNEY, all born between 1870 and 1890. Mary died 27 Mar 1982 in California and is buried with George in the Lowell Memorial Cemetery in Lowell, IN.
His son Dean WHITE was b. 25 May 1923 in Norfolk, NE and by 1946 joined his father in the billboard business, Whiteco Advertising Company and took over the business in 1952. He married Barbara and they had four children including Bruce, Chris, Craig, and Cindy WHITE. Dean died 14 Sept 2016 in Crown Point, IN. His obituary lists his surviving family including children Cynthia MERIDA of Mexico; Bruce WHITE of Chicago, IL; Christopher WHITE of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and Craig WHITE of Park City, UT; and his sister Mary BIRD of Los Angeles, CA.
I am hoping to locate someone from this WHITE Family so that the photograph can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley
