Jacob "Jack" Holwerda was born in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, United States of America on December 14, 1924. He is the son of Peter Holwerda (1899-1972) and Edith Elizabeth Banninga (1902-1975). He had siblings George P (1922-2002), Peter (1923-1944), and Robert John Holwerda (1929-2021). On December 20, 1946 he married Kathyrn Pearl Meekma (1926=2018) at the 2nd Christian Reformed Church of Roseland in Chicago, Illinois. The couple had multiple children together including a son named Craig Peter Holwerda who did not survive (1961-1961). Jack enlisted on March 24, 1943 in Kalamazoo Michigan and was discharged on January 11, 1946.
