Japanese American Evacuees WWII
At the beginning of World War II,Japanese American citizens were evacuated to camps (for the duration of the war). This is a photo from Arcadia California (April 1942) showing a woman's luggage being inspected before she entered the Santa Anita Park assembly center.
What strikes me about this photo is her great smile. She's in such good humor for what must have been a demeaning experience.
