Joseph Franklin Smiley

I have an old studio photograph of Joseph SMILEY which was taken at the A. Biles Studio in West Chester, PA in the early 1900's. Joseph appears to be about 5-6 years old. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Joseph and his family:

Joseph Franklin SMILEY was b. 24 Aug 1904 in Dilworthtown, PA to parents William Harry SMILEY (1865-1925) and Martha “Mattie” Ann COX (1865-1927) who were married 19 Jan 1888 in Chester Township, Chester Co., PA. Joseph was one of 5 children born to this couple including Anna Lillian; Fillmore Lewis; Samuel Eugene; Catherine or Katherine C.; and Joseph Franklin SMILEY, all born between 1889 and 1905. Joesph married Jessie Rebecca CARPENTER on 29 Aug 1931 in Manhattan, NY and they had three children including Joseph Franklin SMILEY Jr. (1932-1980); Addie Lee SMILEY (1935-2011); and Judith Ann SMILEY (1939-2022).

Joseph died 10 Nov 1947 in Branchville, MD and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
