Tennessee Union Civil War Reunion in Kingsport, Tennessee at Walkers Fork Baptist Church in 1901. Joshua E Tilson is standing in second row with grandson above is the American Flag.
I remember as a very young child, I had plenty of aunts, uncles, great, great aunts and uncles. great grandparents, etc....I don't remember any of them smelling bad..but I do remember the smell of vicks vapor rub, liniment, licorice, ivory soap, and brill cream hair products...
Why would they smell bad? These men look rather dashing for their reunion. I love photos like this. I would love to see more photos of women who served in this war too.
Out of all that picture contains, Catherine Telesco, you comment on how you imagine they smelled, then slam the women too..oh and threw your own family under the wagon too? Veterans also.. For Shame !.Your Minder is not doing a good job of keeping up with you.
Wow ! The stories I would have loved to been told by these men. . Circa 1900. Its hard to image that these guys fought in the American Civil War. Fantastic.
I also had family members in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. The Civil War was a rough war. These are some tough old guys! Women weren't legally allowed to enlist, but some did disguise themselves and slip through the cracks.
Joshua E Tilson was born in 1832 in Unicoi, Unicoi County, Tennessee United States, and died at age 71 years old in 1903. Family, friend, or fan, this family history biography is for you to remember Joshua E Tilson.

I love antique photographs. In addition to sharing old photos of my family, I am also going through my collection of "antique store people". They've been sitting in a storage tub in my back room much too long and maybe some of their families will be able to find them here.
If I'm able to identify the people in the photo, I upload it not only to AncientFaces, but also to Ancestry, FamilySearch, and Find-A-Grave. If the person in the picture is a military veteran, the photo also goes on Fold3. I figure that the more places I upload these pictures, the greater the chance that a relative will be able to find them.
I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth.
So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her.

My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
