I have an old studio photograph of Julia GETTY which was taken at the J. T. Silva Gallery in San Francisco, CA. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1860’s or 1870’s with Julia appearing to be about 8-12 years old at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Julia and her family:

Julia Fries SCHETTER was b. 25 Aug 1859 in San Francisco, CA to parents Frederick SCHETTER (1831-1902) and Emily “Emma” Gardner CHASE (1840-1900). Julia was one of 8 children born to this couple including Charlotte “Lottie”; Julia Fries; Herman Frederick “Fred”; Eugene Walcott; Grace; William; Emma Florence; and Otto Herman SCHETTER, all born between 1857 and 1874.

Julia married Robert Wilmot or Wilmet GETTY (1846-1931) on 13 Jun 1878 in Empire, OR and they had four children including Fritz Charles; Florence Eliza; Neil Walcott; and Julia Schetter GETTY, all born between 1879 and 1903. The family lived for years in Empire, Oregon near Coos Bay and moved back to San Francisco and then Oakland, CA in the early 1900’s. Julia died 15 Dec 1913 or 1915 in Oakland, CA.

Her daughter Florence married Albert GROTH in San Francisco, CA in 1909. Julia’s brother Otto SCHETTER ran the Western Union Office in Marshfield, OR. Julia’s husband Robert GETTY died in Oakland, CA in 1931 and his obituary listed his surviving family including a son Fritz GETTY of Portland, OR; a daughter Mrs. Albert GROTH of San Francisco, CA; and Julia S. GETTY of Oakland, CA.

I’d like to get this treasure to a family member and would appreciate you contacting me if you are a member of this family or know someone who might be.

Thanks,
Shelley
