A photo of Kate Morgan, the ghost of the Hotel Del Coronado?
In 1885, Kate Farmer married Thomas Edwin Morgan. They had one child, who died after 2 days.
In 1890, she ran off with a stepson of her husband's stepmother. She ended up in Los Angeles, CA, working as a housemaid. At this point, she told her co-workers that she was married to a gambler but it is unknown to whom she referred.
On November 24, 1892, she checked into the Hotel Del in Coronado. Five days later, she was found on the stairs, dead with a gunshot wound to the head. Her death was ruled a suicide while some still believe that it was a homicide.
Here's the mystery: She checked in as "Lottie Bernard." No family members identified her body and the recent photo her employers gave the police was said to not look like the body. So was the "beautiful woman" who checked in alone Kate Morgan? Why was she staying at the luxury resort alone? Why did she commit suicide or was she killed - and why? Is she the ghost of the Del? And, if so, why does she still haunt the resort after more than 100 years?
Date & Place:
at California in California United States
Very unfinished.....If she checked in under a different name...and they say she couldn't be identified.....how do the even know it was Kate Morgan?? She might have lived out her life in Paris....LOL
No one knows for sure . . . we know that people (and the phenomena of things moving, bumps, footsteps, lights turning off . . . ) report experiencing things. We know that the body was listed as Kate's. But the mystery continues - even at the Del.
I have been at the Del but not as a hotel guest - ate at the restaurant and walked around the lobby and grounds. Yes there are a few mythical ghost stories around and about that place.
Picked up a book about her while visiting San Diego this past summer. It's called "Beautiful Stranger, the Ghost of Kate Morgan and the Hotel del Coronado".
A personal story: My cousin's family has owned "the 2nd oldest house" in Coronado for 4 generations. (The oldest house is next door - both houses built by the same family, the 2nd one for their daughters.) My Aunt said that every time a new generation moved in the house, a female ghost would visit. My Aunt's mother asked the ghost her name, she said "Allie." So she went next door and asked the family what the name of the daughter who lived in her house was. "Allie." So . . . needless to say, I was scared when we visited them. But I never saw her ghost. I guess she didn't bother with visitors.

I'm a Founder of AncientFaces and support the community answering questions & helping members make connections to the past (thus my official title of Founder & Content and Community Support ). For me, it's been a labor of love for over 20 years. I truly believe with all of my heart that everyone should be remembered for generations to come.
I am 2nd generation San Jose and have seen a lot of changes in the area while growing up. We used to be known as the "Valley of Heart's Delight" (because the Valley was covered with orchards and there were many canneries to process the food grown here, which shipped all over the US) - now we have adopted the nickname "Capital of Silicon Valley" and Apple, Ebay, Adobe, Netflix, Facebook, and many more tech companies are within a few miles of my current home in San Jose (including AncientFaces). From a small town of 25,000, we have grown to 1 million plus. And when you add in all of the communities surrounding us (for instance, Saratoga, where I attended high school, living a block from our previous Mayor), we are truly one of the big cities in the US. I am so very proud of my hometown. For more information see Kathy - Founder & Content and Community Director My family began AncientFaces because we believe that unique photos and stories that show who people are/were should be shared with the world.
