A photo of Lt Werner Bauer - December 8, 1941. This photo was taken the day after the attack at Pearl Harbor. Lt. Werner Bauer (USNR) was aboard the battleship USS West Virginia when she was hit. Another officer flooded the compartments opposite the torpedo hits, allowing the West Virginia to settle to the bottom upright. Werner lead a team into the black below the waterline to flood her ammunition bunkers. He survived with mere cuts and bruises. Somewhere he found a naval officer's hat to get this picture taken of him while still in his hospital gown. He was eager to let his family back in Missouri know he was safe.

Ironically, his cousin, Rudolph Bauer, was a bomber pilot with the Luftwaffe. One brother immigrated, the other did not.

Carol Channing was born in Seattle WA in 1921 and, after her parents moved when she was 2 wks old, raised in San Francisco CA. (Her mother was of German Jewish descent and her father was African-American and German.) Attending Bennington College at the age of 16, she majored in drama. Moving to New York, she began a storied stage, movie, and tv career that lasted until (almost) her death.

She was married four times (her only child, a son, was the product of her second marriage) - the last time to her junior high school sweetheart, who died at the age of 92, eight years into their marriage.

Ms Channing died on January 15, 2019, 16 days before her 98th birthday.

I am not sure what the J. W. is as I am researching this side of my family. My Grandfather was George W. Pettit, Great Grandparents were Arthur And Sarah (Leggett) Pettit. The daughter of Marjorie Marshall, a tap dance teacher, and Tony Marshall, a film director and producer, and the sister of Garry Marshall (her sister was a casting director and producer), it's not surprising that Penny entered the entertainment industry as well. She was a actress (probably best known for the series "Laverne and Shirley), director, and producer. She brought us years of laughter in her productions.

She married Rob Reiner in 1971 (himself a well known entertainer and the son of Carl Reiner) and they were married for a decade. A previous marriage resulted in a daughter, Tracy (who is also an actor), and Rob adopted her.

Penny died of complications from diabetes on December 18, 2018 in Los Angeles CA - a continent away from her birthplace, The Bronx, New York City.

A photo of Mary Lewis Donnell, sister of Dr James Lewis. This is a photo of my grandfathers Aunt Mary from the Family Bible. She was born Jan 7, 1809 and married Thomas Donnell in Kentucky in 1828. They had 3 daughters: Cassandra b. 1829, Margaret 1831, and Eliza 1834. They settled in Decatur Co, Indiana. Cassandra married Rev Joseph Walker from Dublin, Ireland. He was the minister of Springhill Church 1857-1867. Mary died May 1, 1898.

A photo of Ralph Baverstock (grandad) and his pals: 6 men of the 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment. Bottom right is my grandfather Ralph Baverstock, bottom left is his friend Harry Marshall. Top right is believed to be Ernie Askew but unsure.After five years of research, the three other chaps are still unknown. Shortly after this photo was taken the 2nd Battalion these 6 men carried out their first jump into battle on the 29th November 1942 at Deppiene in Tunisia. Both my grandfather and Harry went on to fight in Sicily, Italy and Holland but nothing is known of the other and what happen to them, something I would dearly like to find out. The guys are all very the Army Air Corps badge on their berets in this photo as the no familiar winged badge didn't come into use until early 1943

A photo of Kate Morgan, the ghost of the Hotel Del Coronado?

In 1885, Kate Farmer married Thomas Edwin Morgan. They had one child, who died after 2 days.

In 1890, she ran off with a stepson of her husband's stepmother. She ended up in Los Angeles, CA, working as a housemaid. At this point, she told her co-workers that she was married to a gambler but it is unknown to whom she referred.

On November 24, 1892, she checked into the Hotel Del in Coronado. Five days later, she was found on the stairs, dead with a gunshot wound to the head. Her death was ruled a suicide while some still believe that it was a homicide.

Here's the mystery: She checked in as "Lottie Bernard." No family members identified her body and the recent photo her employers gave the police was said to not look like the body. So was the "beautiful woman" who checked in alone Kate Morgan? Why was she staying at the luxury resort alone? Why did she commit suicide or was she killed - and why? Is she the ghost of the Del? And, if so, why does she still haunt the resort after more than 100 years?
