Leah and Ola Shaver
I’ve “rescued” an old photograph of Mrs. J. SHAVER’S children from Hutchinson, KS. The family address is noted on the back of the photograph as East Carpenter St. in Hutchinson. The photograph was taken at the Martin Studio in Hutchinson, KS most likely in the 1890’s with the two girls appearing to be about 6 – 8 years old at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family:

Leah F. SHAVER was b. 1889 in Hutchinson, KS and Ola I. SHAVER was b. 1891, both daughters of James SHAVER (1844-1917) and Hannah SHAVER (1852-1915). Leah died 22 Dec 1964 and Ola died in 1914 and is buried in the Partridge Cemetery in Partridge, KS. Her parents are both buried in the same cemetery along with a brother Elmer A. SHAVER (b. and died in 1887). Leah married Sylvester Anton HOFF (1881-1973) and together they had two children, Kenneth Antone HOFF (1914-1957) and Grace HOFF (b. 1916).

Census records provide the following details:

1900 census of Hutchinson, KS:

James SHAVER, age 56, born Apr 1844, married 15 years, born OH, parents born OH, a Farm Laborer
Hannah SHAVER, wife, age 48, born Nov 1851, married 15 years, 3 children/2 living, born IN, parents born IN/OH
Leah F. SHAVER, dau, age 11, born Nov 1888, born KS, at School
Ollie B. SHAVER, dau, age 9, born Feb 1891, born KS, at School
Charles BURNS, step son, age 15, born Nov 1884, born KS, parents born KY, at School

1910 census of Hutchinson, KS:

James SHAVER, age 66, married 25 years, born OH, parents born USA, a Farmer
Hannah SHAVER, wife, age 58, married 25 years, 3 children/2 living, born IN, parents born IN/OH
Leah SHAVER, dau, age 21, born KS
Ola SHAVER, dau, age 19, born KS

I’m hoping to locate someone from this SHAVER Family so that the photograph can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.

Thanks,
Shelley
