Edward John Rowekamp was born on August 6, 1927 in Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio to parents Edward Henry Rowekamp (1902-1966) and Clara Angela Neiheisel (1901-1968). He had sisters Dorothy Ellen (1923-2012) and Mary Rowekamp (1935-2013). He married Mary Ellen Linz (1928-2010) on April 3, 1948 and they had multiple children together. They honeymooned in California stopping in Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon along the way.
