Skid was born in Grimsby, his mother died when he was 7, his father left him & his sister Gladys Olga to be bought up by his Grandmother. He was a very out going person, loved life. He married in 1934 living and working in Grimsby, this marriage broke down. He joined the RAF during WWII being stationed in India. He remarried in 1943 and after the War moved to live in Nottingham where he was the manager of the decorating department of Nottingham Cooperative society. On retirement went to live back in Lincolnshire, but returned to Nottingham some years before his death.
