Skid was born in Grimsby, his mother died when he was 7, his father left him & his sister Gladys Olga to be bought up by his Grandmother. He was a very out going person, loved life. He married in 1934 living and working in Grimsby, this marriage broke down. He joined the RAF during WWII being stationed in India. He remarried in 1943 and after the War moved to live in Nottingham where he was the manager of the decorating department of Nottingham Cooperative society. On retirement went to live back in Lincolnshire, but returned to Nottingham some years before his death.

Is this David Russell Stevenson the same man that was married to a Clara LAWRENCE(sometimes spelt LAURENCE) nee JONES? Clara was on board the ship "Royal Tar" that went to Paraguay leaving Sydney c16 July 1893. She was 26yrs old & a nurse. Clara's first husband was Billy(?William) LAWRENCE/LAURENCE, I have found no evidence of their marriage in NSW, Qld or Victoria. They may have married in Paraguay. Billy died in Guernsey 1942 during the German occupation. Clara married again to David Russell STEVENSON(date unknown) apparently a 2nd cousin to Robert Louis STEVENSON. Does anyone have data on David & Clara?
