Lydia Gieseke and Emma Marten
A photo of Lydia Gieseke and Emma Maren. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Lydia GIESEKE GARBE and Emma MARTEN YEATS which was taken at the Weston Studio in North Yakima, WA on 20 March 1910. The girls appear to be in their early teens at the time the photograph was taken, a confirmation photograph maybe. In addition to their full names, someone has also written the name, address, and phone number for Mrs. Emma M. YEATS on the back of the photograph as well. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding the girls and their families:

Lydia Matilda GIESEKE was b. 24 Feb 1896 in Swan Lake, MN to parents Louis “Louie” Ernst GIESEKE (1867-1948) and Emmelina or Emmeline HUNZIKER (1874-1938). Lydia was one of 8 children born to this couple including, Dorothy Elsie or Elsie Dorothea; Lydia Matilda; Erich Fred; Wilbert Daniel; Louis F.; Harold J.; Viola A.; and Olga Eleanora or Elnora GIESEKE, all born between 1894 and 1916. Lydia married Arthur Max GARBE (1893-1969), together they had 5 children including Lorenz Arthur; Ruben or Reuben Emil; Wilbert Louis; Viola Elsie or Elsia; and Victor A. GARBE, all born between 1917 and 1924.

Their son Victor died at just one day old. Lydia died 25 Oct 1976 and is buried in the Tahoma Cemetery in Yakima, WA. Lydia’s son Lorenz GARBE married Nova FERGUSON on 16 Sept 1951 in Yakima, WA and he died 15 Dec 1987 in Yakima, WA. Lorenz was survived by his wife and three sons, Mark GARBE of Yakima; Time GARBE of Veneta, OR; and Perry GARBE of Yakima; and a daughter Lydia GARBE of Yakima. Her son Ruben E. GARBE married Patricia “Jeanne” BENNETT on 16 Nov 1941 in Yakima. They moved to Moses Lake, WA in 1972 and owned Garbe Motors there. Ruben died in Spokane, WA on 14 May 2000 and he is buried in Moses Lake, WA. At the time of his death he was survived by a son Kerry GARBE of Moses Lake, WA; a daughter Penny BENNETT of Bellevue, WA; Roxanne KRUEGER of Columbia, MD; and his sister Viola PECK of Yakima, WA. Her daughter Viola “Ide” PECK died 10 Jul 2004.

Emma MARTEN was born about 1897 in Minnesota to parents Charles MARTEN (b. 1859) and Emilie K. WIESE (1862-1934). Emma had one sibling, a sister, Anna b. 1886. Emma married Clarence Goddard YEATS (1893-1942) and together they had 7 children including sons David W.; and Patrick Larry YEATS. Emma died 6 Feb 1979 and is buried in the Tahoma Cemetery in Yakima, WA.
