That's a photo album. I have one just like it. It belonged to my great grandmother. The outside covers are hard. The outer coved end is covered in velvet & has a gated hook latch. Edited to add that the photos may have came from that album OR the photo album & the framed pictures belonged together, and belonging to this child's family.
