Newell Justin Nelson was born in Jackson Wisconsin to Anton M. Nelson (1870-1930) and Anna Nelson (born 1868), and had three sisters Cassie Lorenza (born 1897), Ethel Elvina (1901-1985), and Ella M. Nelson (born 1904). Newell Nelson and Agnes Margaret Bersing (1900-1990) were married on December 26th 1923 in Blair Trempealeau County Wisconsin, and they had children Delbert A. Nelson (1927-1998), Newell Jay Nelson (1933-1999), and Paul. The wedding announcement of Newell and Agnes read: Newell J. Nelson Weds Agnes Bersing - Young Couple will Reside on Farm West of Blair. Newell J. Nelson and Miss Agnes Bersing were united in the Holy bonds of Matrimony at the Zion Lutheran parsonage Wednesday forenoon, December 26th, at 9:00 o'clock, Rev. A. J. Boe performing the ceremony. The bridal couple were attended by Miss Ethel Nelson, sister of the groom and Delbert Bersing, brother of the bride. The bridal couple left immediately afterwards for Minneapolis on their honeymoon. The groom is a progressive young farmer of Preston township and has a large circle of friends. The bride is well known hereabouts, having assisted with clerical work at the Benrud Bros. store here for several years. The many friends of the young couple wish them much happiness and extend congratulations, and the Press also wishes them abundance of prosperity in their journey through life. On their return here they will make their home on a farm west of Blair. Newell ended up farming for only a short while, he moved to Onalaska in 1927 and became a grocer in La Crosse and Onalaska for over 40 years.

I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth. So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her. For more information about what we're building see About AncientFaces. My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
