I think because they usually wore a suit coat. Maybe it was hot.
This is a photo of my Great Grandfather. He lived from 1899 to 1959. He left the marriage when my grandmother was only 3 months old in 1926. So based on that information I would say that the picture was taken in 1920's but no later than 1926 and it was in Boone County, Kentucky.

He looks like he could be somewhere in middle-age in the picture, so maybe 1940's to 1950 if he was born in 1899?

Looks like he is on his way to Church with his only dress shirt, which if home sewn could be any pattern I believe, and the horse is wearing a flyguard. Probably deer and horse flies constantly biting and this design moves enough to keep these off.

cars didnt come out till the 40's if im not mistaken. so that horse pulled buggy (from the fold up cover on the back. and the long style whip ment it was for transporting people) looks like about the early 40"s maybe even sooner.

Did you know when she was having a baby either Barbie our your mom. He was at the hospital because he lost his arm in a work accident and he was on the third floor and while she was on the first floor never came down to see her. The Dr. Said William do you know who in this hospital? She said my daddy. Even if he's and a****** can you send me a copy. Please.
