Robert Edward Ostrander is the son of Frederick Ostrander (1893-1969) and Bernice Herzig (1898-1987). He had siblings Donald Frederick Ostrander (1918-1980), Dorothy Ostrander (1920-2007), Roland Ostrander (1922-1962), and Garnet Ostrander. He attended and graduated from Macomber Vocational High School (Toledo, Ohio, USA) in 1941. At the age of 23, he registered for the draft on November 5, 1945, in Toledo, where he resided. Then on March 10, 1942, Robert made the honorable decision to enlist in the military. He joined the Armed Forces and served diligently in the military for several years, from his enlistment date in 1942 until his discharge on October 28, 1945.
