Scoffone Trucking Service (STS) later known as Athens Transportation Service (ATS)
Taken about 19 years after Al Scoffone started his business with one truck, this photo shows Al and his crew removing an old locomotive steam engine from the Santa Cruz Mountains.

It is believed the locomotive was headed to the home of famed Southern Pacific railroad engineer Billy Jones, who used to work the rail line in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

STS was based in Santa Clara County.
Date & Place: at Santa Cruz Mountains in Santa Clara County, California 95037, United States

It's great to see how Al started STS with one truck 19 years earlier (see other photo) and to see how it had grown in that time. Crazy to think we've now had AncientFaces for 19 years and to see how this community has grown.

I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth. So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her. For more information about what we're building see About AncientFaces. My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
