The Great Pullman Strike
A depiction of the great Pullman strike of 1894 which prompted Congress to establish Labor Day as a national holiday.
Affecting most railroads west of Detroit, the strike resulted in the death of around 70 workers and property damage of over $80 million. Six days after the strike ended, Congress and Grover Cleveland created Labor Day as a result of this strike. We're relaxing and having picnics today because of the blood, sweat, and tears of our ancestors.
