Thomas Edmund Dermott

I have an old studio photograph identified as Tom DERMOTT which was taken at the Studio of Ernest F. Stevens in Boston, MA and later found at the Liberty Flea Market in Liberty, ME. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870’s or 1880’s with Tom likely in his 40’s to 60’s at the time. I believe that this is a photograph of Thomas “Tom” Edmund DERMOTT or his father Thomas DERMOTT and have gathered the following information regarding Tom and his family:

Thomas “Tom” Edmund DERMOTT was b. 5 May 1849 in Blackstone, MA to parents Thomas DERMOTT (1822-1888 – born in England) and Eliza Ann MORTON (1821-1861 – born in Portsmouth, NH). Tom was one of 7 children born to this couple including Louisa Adelaide; Mary Eliza; Thomas “Tom” Edmund; Arebella Lucretia; Annie or Anne Morton; William Morton; and Sarah Ottillie DERMOTT, all born between 1844 and 1859.

In 1880 the entire family was living in Melrose, MA and Tom was Clerking in a Store. The family included:

Thomas E. DERMOTT, son, age 30
William N. DERMOTT, son, age 23

Walter B. SMITH, grandson, age 14
Bertha L. SMITH, granddau, age 12
Catherine E. SMITH, granddau, age 3
Ralph E. SMITH, grandson, age 1
Charles E. BROWN, sil, age 28
Anne M. BROWN, dau, age 26

By 1900 his father had passed, and the family was living in Malden, MA with his mother and three siblings. It doesn’t appear that he ever married, and Tom died 8 Mar 1905 in Malden, MA. Records often record the last name as DERMOT with only one “T” as well.
