Velma and Ora Crow
I've "rescued" an old photograph of Velma and Ora CROW which was taken at the Joslin Studio in Palouse, WA. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with the two children ranging in age from about 2-6 years old. The girls are also identified as the "Charlie's Children". Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family:

Velma Gladys CROW was b.1 Dec 1902 in Viola, ID to parents Charles Summer or Sumner CROW (1879-1976) and Ada Louise or Lois HILL (1881-1983). Velma was one of 10 children born to this couple including, Velma Gladys; Ora Blanche; Virgie; Charles Ellis; Elzie or Elsie; Leta Josephine; Melvin Franice or Francis Melvin; and three others, all born between 1902 and 1919. Velma married twice, one of her husbands was Julius GARTZ (1897-1964) and she had 4 children of her own and died on 9 May 1987 in Spokane, WA.

Velma’s sister Ora Blanche CROW was b. 10 Apr 1905 in Viola, ID

Census records provide the following details:

1910 census of Palouse, WA:

Charles S. CROW, age 30, married 8 years, born WA, parents born IN/IA, a Farmer
Ada L. CROW, wife, age 29, married 8 years, 4 children/4 living, born WA, parents born IN/OR
Velma CROW, dau, age 7, born ID
Ora CROW, dau, age 6, born ID
Virgie CROW, dau, age 2, born ID
Ellis CROW, son, age 2 months, born WA

1916 census of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada:

Charles CROW, age 37, born USA
Ada CROW, wife, age 35, born USA
Velma CROW, dau, age 12, born USA
Ora CROW, dau, age 10, born USA
Elsie CROW, dau, age 6, born USA
Leta CROW, dau, age 2, born USA

I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that the photograph can be returned to the care of relatives. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.

Thanks,
Shelley

That unique curl reminds me of a poem my grandmother told "There once was a girl, who had a little curl, right in the middle of her forehead. When she was good, she was very, very good; but when she was mean, she was horrid!"
